Regex tester limits
The tester compiles the pattern with JavaScript RegExp and highlights matches in the sample. It does not explain each token, and it does not run Python, Java, or .NET expressions.
What is refused
- A pattern longer than 500 characters.
- A sample longer than 20,000 characters.
- Flags other than g, i, m, s, u, and y.
- Nested quantifiers, because JavaScript cannot interrupt a pattern that may run for a long time.
A refused pattern leaves the sample unchanged. Shorten the pattern or remove the nested quantifier, then test again.
